Chapter 10. Image Maps > Building an Image Map

Building an Image Map

In this exercise, you create an image map by using an image that the art department designed. The department kindly marked where the hotspots must be and what shapes they must take:

1.
Open the file called fridge.png from the Exercises/10 folder on the CD-ROM and save it to your hard drive as myfridge.png (see Figure 10.5).

Figure 10.5. The areas that need hotspots are already identified in the fridge.png file.

2.
Display the Layers panel if it is not already showing (choose Window, Layers or click the Layers icon in the mini-launcher).

Note the three layers within this file:

  • Web layer— Where the hotspot objects reside.

  • Button Labels layer— Holds the objects that show where the hotspots are to be placed and their text descriptions.

  • Main Image layer— Currently locked. It contains the bitmap refrigerator image and the headline “Special Features.”
