Chapter 25. Using Photoshop with Quark, ... > From Illustrator to Photoshop

From Illustrator to Photoshop

Because Illustrator can handle both vector and bitmap information, you can export a bitmap from Illustrator right into Photoshop. To do that, you use the Edit, Paste or the Rasterize commands, depending on the type of data included in the image. I explain both methods in the following sections. One command requires that the design is already in bitmap format, whereas the other converts a vector design to bitmap format.

Edit, Paste

The simplest way to move a bitmap from Illustrator to Photoshop is to select it, copy it, and then go to Photoshop and choose Edit, Paste to paste the image into an open Photoshop document. If you need to open a new document, after selecting and copying the image in Illustrator, choose File, New in Photoshop (Photoshop reads the file dimensions from the Clipboard and offers up the right-sized document window), and then choose Edit, Paste. Oddly, there doesn't seem to be a Clipboard size limit when pasting from Illustrator to Photoshop, but only when pasting from Photoshop into Illustrator.
