Layout and Design Using Photoshop Type

As we've mentioned to the point of annoyance in this book, you always need to have a plan before you sit down and design anything—even a garage sale sign. There simply isn't the space in this book to write about good page layout, but we squeaked in a little of the most important concepts of good layout into this section. To begin with, there's something I learned in college (ever see a school ring made up of cave paintings on stone?) concerning layout that will not fail you if you follow along. It is here we introduce the “Swiss Grid System.”

The Swiss Grid System

The Swiss Grid System is so ridiculously simple, it's sophisticated. Employing the Swiss Grid System in your work simply entails dividing the page into columns and rows. Revolutionary thought, huh? But still, designers will plunk items on a page nilly-willy and not think twice about it.
