Chapter 17. Surrealistic Photoshop > Inserting a Layer into a Layer Set

Inserting a Layer into a Layer Set

Photoshop's success as the world's leading image-editing program can be attributed to Adobe's willingness to listen to consumer feedback. Versatility and an organized work environment seem to be high on many users' lists of requests. Layers provide versatility and Layer Sets provide organization.

We've already worked with layers, so let me introduce Layer Sets. Say you have 30 layers for one image. To view most of those layers, you need to extend the palette to the full height of your screen, and yet you still need to scroll to view the entire Layers palette. Layer Sets are folders where you can drop any number of layers. The sets can be open to show all the layers inside or closed so that all you see is the set layer. For example, instead of scrolling through 30 layers on the Layers palette, you can place 10 layers inside each of three Layer Sets, enabling you to view only 10 layers at once. Layer Sets are cool, especially for neat-freaks.
