Summary

Briefly, we covered layers, Layer Mask mode, Quick Mask, at least four or five toolbox tools including the very important Type tool, a Style filter, the Free Transform tool, and others. That's quite a lot for an “up and running” chapter, eh? Actually, there was an ulterior motive to piling on the tutorials in this chapter, which was that a lot of the tools and features you used here, you'll use again and again in Photoshop and in the examples in this book. And now, we can move more quickly, pick up the pace in this book, as you take on more and more fantastic assignments.

Chapter 2 is a departure from working with Photoshop; it's about color calibration. But before you say, “Yuck” or “Borrrring,” think about this: You have a whole book before you and a whole career of editing and saving images as well. What if you bought a truckload of audio cassettes, but your tape player played them all at the wrong speed? What if you won the Publishers' Clearing House contest and got 5,000 DVDs, but your TV set was out of whack and showed Harrison Ford as having a blue face?
