JPEG 2000 is a file format that's built for the future. Inevitably, then, some of its options might seem confusing. This section is included in this book to dispel misconceptions about using this futuristic file format. Let's say it again, though, before we start: JPEG 2000 is not supported by very many applications and browsers. You would be doing the graphics community a favor by writing a note to Microsoft encouraging the company to support the standard. Eventually, the standard will catch on, and having the big boys such as Adobe Systems behind the idea only speeds up the process.
Before you can use the JPEG 2000 plug-in, you have to install it; it's not installed by default like other Photoshop filters. Fortunately, this process is an easy one: Just drag the plug-in from the installation disk to C:\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Plug-Ins\Adobe Photoshop Only\File Formats (see Figure 23.6).
