Chapter 1. ✓ Start Here

Surely some of the most important things you own are your photographs. They capture moments in time that you can never get back again. With the advent of digital photography, you can easily capture even more of these “life moments,” perhaps making a single individual photo less important, and yet making the collection of images even more precious because they represent a larger “snapshot” of your life. With all these important bits of your history floating around on your computer, it's time to get them organized. And with Photoshop Album's help, you can organize, share, and print your images with ease.

By the way, although this book includes many digital photography tips and techniques, you don't have to own a digital camera to use Photoshop Album. However, if you choose to take photos the traditional way, you should purchase a good scanner to scan printed photos into your computer—you'll get some tips on choosing a good quality scanner later in this chapter. While you've got your wallet out, another purchase to consider is a good graphics editing program such as Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or Paint Shop Pro. With a graphics editor, you can make adjustments and corrections to your images, such as improving their contrast, color, and sharpness. True, you can make some of these changes within Photoshop Album—and I'll show you how to do that in this book—but if you want more control over those changes and you're looking for a more professional result, a good graphics editor is a must.
