Chapter 2. Capturing Common Images and Movies > Take a Short Digital Movie

7. Take a Short Digital Movie

Many digital cameras allow you to record a short movie. Bear in mind, of course, that recording video is not your digital camera's main purpose, and as a result, the quality is not as good as you can get with a camcorder. Still, it's often handy to be able to record the action at an event, regardless of the quality. And it's certainly better than having to lug both your digital camera and your camcorder with you. Note that the length of the digital video you will be able to record using your camera is by necessity quite short (typically only a minute or less). Also, keep in mind that the camera's flash will not work during video recording, so there must be adequate light to record the video properly. The resulting digital video is usually saved in QuickTime format (a common video format used by most computers) or Motion JPEG.
