Hour 6. Adding Type

When Photoshop first appeared many years ago (at least “many” by software standards), it didn’t do much with type. You could choose a color and a font and size and put the type more or less where you wanted it on the page, but that was all. For some, that was enough. Other users demanded more flexibility. And bit by bit, we’ve gotten it. The good news for you as an Elements user is that most, if not quite all, of big brother Photoshop’s type capabilities have been brought over intact.

Your type can be set horizontally or vertically. You can fill the letters with a picture, or cut them out of a picture, using the Type Mask tool. You can stretch and distort your lettering, as well as apply any of the 100 filters Elements provides. Elements has a set of tools to warp type into waves, flag shapes, or even fish.
