Summary

This hour covered some of the plug-in filters that Photoshop and Elements both use. Filters can be applied to an entire image or to selected parts of it. First, you learned about the Sharpen filters. You learned how to use Unsharp Masking to take the blur out of digital photos and scanned pictures. Then, we looked at the Blur filters. There are several different kinds that do different things to the picture. Blurring is useful for de-emphasizing a background or some unwanted part of the image. The Radial and Motion Blurs give the illusion that the picture, or the part of the picture they’re applied to, is moving. Next, we explored the Noise filters. There are three filters that remove noise and one that adds it. You learned that adding noise to a blank page and then using another filter can create some interesting background textures. Then, we looked at some of the Render filters. You learned to make clouds to enhance a drab sky. You learned about lighting effects, and about lens flares. You also learned how to render an image onto a 3-D shape. Finally, you learned a trick to fade the effect of a filter.
