Hour 18. Using the Artistic Filters > Texturizing with Grain

Texturizing with Grain

Although I talked about the Texture filters in general last hour, I want to talk specifically about the Grain filter (Filters, Texture, Grain) in this hour, because it can be used to create the artistic effect of a pointillist painting or a stippled engraving. Basically, the Grain filter adds noise to an image, in a pattern determined by the type of grain you decide to use. As you can see in Figure 18.25, the Grain dialog box has a pop-up menu that gives you a choice of ten different types of grain, from Soft to Clumped to Speckle.

Figure 18.25. Use the pop-up menu to choose a type of grain.
