Part II: Simple Corrections > Removing Red Eye, Dust, and Scratches

Hour 11. Removing Red Eye, Dust, and Scratches

Good photos can suffer from a host of easily fixed problems. Dust and scratches are most common on old pictures, and particularly on scans of them. Red eye is seen mainly on pictures taken with a flash camera, but it can happen at any time, if the subject’s eye catches the sun or an indoor light. And nearly every picture needs a little bit of cleanup, especially outdoor shots that can be spoiled by litter on the ground, dead leaves, or whatever is there that shouldn’t be. If you didn’t have the foresight, or a flexible assistant, to remove the “schmutz” before you took the picture, you can still take it out in Elements. All you need is patience and a steady hand.

In this hour you will

  • Clean up small problems on photos

  • Get the red eye out

  • Remove dust and small scratches from photos
