Part III: Photo Rescue > Using the Improvement Filters

Hour 17. Using the Improvement Filters

I’m not sure whether Adobe actually invented the concept of filters, or just took the ball and ran with it. It really doesn’t matter. Filters are my favorite Photoshop/Elements tools. Elements has all the Photoshop filters on board, and you can also load third-party filter sets to do everything from framing your pictures in your choice of materials to changing the weather in the scene to creating strange abstractions based on fractal geometry.

In this hour you will

  • Sharpen images

  • Blur backgrounds and annoying objects

  • Simulate motion

  • Remove dust and dirt and other defects

  • Blur details by adding noise

  • Add clouds, spotlights, and lens flare

  • Map an image onto a cube, sphere, or cylinder

  • Add texture such as stained glass, mosaic tile, or burlap
