Q&A

Q1:What’s the difference between skewing and distorting?
A1: When you skew, you can tilt an image or section of text in any direction. Press and hold Cmd/Ctrl+Shift as you drag any middle handle on the side of the bounding box to skew. When you distort, you can stretch an object from its corner in any direction. To distort, press and hold Cmd/Ctrl and drag a corner point.
Q2:Is there a limit to the number of photos I can merge?
A2: There’s a practical limit. As you add more pictures, the height to width ratio becomes unmanageable. Start with no more than five.
Q3:How many layers can I put in a collage?
A3: As many as you need. Flatten them when you are finished so they won’t add to the file size.
Q4:Does type always need a drop shadow? If so, why aren’t drop shadows automatic?
A4: Type doesn’t always need a shadow.
Q5:I’m used to thinking in film terms, where a dissolve is a very smooth transition from one scene to the next. Why are the Elements dissolves so spotty?
A5: I don’t know, and it annoys me too. Maybe if we think of the pixels as being suspended rather than dissolved, it will be easier to understand.
