Task: Scanning

If you don’t have a scanner, please consider buying one. It will be very useful as you continue in computer graphics. Assuming you have a scanner available, try this:

1.
Make sure the scanner is connected to the computer and that you can find it under the Import submenu of the File menu.

2.
Find an old family photo in grayscale.

3.
Place it in the scanner and choose File, Import to begin the import process from Elements.

4.
Elements initiates the scan. Drag the sides of the selection box so it just fits the image. This will prevent scanning more area than necessary.

5.
Check the settings. You should scan at 200 dpi, in 256 grays.

6.
When you’re ready, press the Scan button to send the image back to Elements.

7.
Be sure to save your scanned picture with a filename such as Old Family Photo.psd. We’ll use it later on.
