Q&A

Q1:Is there a difference between rotating 180° and flipping vertically?
A1: Yes. Imagine a playing card with a dot painted on the upper-left corner. If you rotate it 180°, the dot goes to the lower-right corner. If you flip it, the dot ends up in the lower-left corner (and you’ll be looking at the back of the card).
Q2:How can I deselect part of a selection before I rotate it?
A2: The easiest way to do this is to press Option (Mac) or Alt (Windows) with the Selection tool active. You will see a small minus symbol next to the Selection tool. Select the part of the selection to deselect, and it is removed from the selection and added back to the picture.
Q3:I added an inch to the height and width of the canvas. Why did I only get a half-inch border around it?
A3: The image stayed centered, so half of the inch you added went to each side. If you wanted a one-inch border, you’d have had to add two inches, one for each side.
