Task: Create a Composite Image from Scratch

You’ve seen in some of the earlier hours that Photoshop can create art from scratch, in addition to editing and altering existing photos. As a final exercise in compositing, let’s see what kind of artwork we can make out of nothing. First we’ll create a nice looking background, then we’ll add something on top of it.

Start with a new image file and apply a gradient as a background. Gradients, as you have seen, can be linear, radial, angled, reflected, or diamond-shaped, and can have as many transparent or opaque colors as you want. To create the gradient we’ll be using as the basis of our composition, follow these steps:
