DOM 2 Events

So far, you have seen what DOM 2 is all about, how the DOM tree is structured, and even how you can access nodes in the tree—theoretically, of course, because we will introduce the “real stuff,” that is, scripting the SVG DOM, in the next chapter.

Knowing how to access the tree is one thing, but knowing when to access the tree is another. The SVG viewer does not just define a random moment to execute your scripts, but it waits until some special event has occurred. There are many different events; here are just some examples:
