The set Element

The set element provides a means to create stepwise virtually instantaneous transitions between two states. It can be used, for example, to create mouseover effects where a CSS style property is altered stepwise. Clicking an SVG object may alter the appearance of the same or another object or may hide or make visible another object.

You don't need to set the fill attribute to a value of freeze on the set element. Using a set element to animate a value causes the animated value to be held, unless the set element has an end attribute and the event specified in the value of the end attribute is satisfied. Listing 11.1 shows an example of this usage.
