SVG with the Most Important Scripting Languages

After you complete the necessary steps to prepare your Web site for SVG files, all data served from your server that bears the extension .svg will have the correct MIME type, satisfying the client browser (if the plug-in is installed, obviously). However, when you're generating SVG files on the server side, as we will do in the next few chapters, you need to set the MIME type by hand. In this section, we will show you how to achieve this with some of the most popular scripting languages.

To test these scripts in your browser, call the scripts and append ?IE=.svg to the URL to trick older Internet Explorer versions into handling the results as actual SVG files (for example, http://servername/scriptname.ext?IE=.svg). However, note that some browsers do not like to show SVG files as the top document in the browser but require an HTML file that contains an <embed> element (<object> is not supported by Netscape 4.x and earlier) that references the script:
