The switch Element

In a document, you may want to render content depending on particular conditions that apply. For example, if the user's language settings were for German content, you might want to render a greeting or description in German rather than English. Adjusting what is rendered according to the conditions that apply is termed conditional processing.

SVG allows conditional processing of content by means of a switch element. One use of the switch element is to allow localization of SVG content. Typically, such conditional processing controls which of several optional pieces of text are rendered onscreen.
