Linking in SVG

Linking in SVG depends on the XML Linking Language, XLink. All internal and external links in SVG images, including those that use fragment identifiers, make use of XLink attributes.

XLink: The XML Linking Language

XLink is a W3C specification for the description of links among resources. Unusually among W3C specifications expressed in XML syntax, XLink adds no new elements. All the semantics of XLink links are expressed in global attributes, which are in the XLink namespace. XLink provides both extended links and simple links. SVG implements only simple XLink links.
