Clipping in SVG

Clipping in SVG is done using a clipping path. A clipping path is the shape or shapes that you, effectively, cut out. A clipping path is created using a clipPath element. A clipPath element has an id attribute that allows it to be referenced and used.

The shape of clipping paths in SVG may be defined using any of the following SVG elements nested within a clipPath element: path, text, line, rect, circle, ellipse, polyline, polygon, and use. Given the enormous range of shapes available onscreen using an element from the available choices, it should be clear that the available shapes of a clipping path in SVG are enormously flexible.
