Internationalization

SVG again has a head start regarding internationalization, thanks to its XML base. The availability of Unicode encoding allows us to present material in any of the major world languages. Features of SVG make it possible to define character sets and also to determine the way text is laid out, so in effect this means that text can be rendered in potentially any written language. In addition, there is a simple mechanism by which different language material can be presented according to locale.

NOTE

Internationalization is often discussed alongside localization. This is where material is adapted to suit the customs and preferences of a particular culture (usually a geographic locale). SVG's versatility in graphic and textual presentation makes localization an area open for exploitation using this technology.
