Workshop

This section gives you a chance to see how much you can remember about vector graphics and the subtopics covered in this hour. The quiz will act as a simple test of your memory. Learning to use vector tools is quite complex, and it is worth your while to get familiar and feel confident with them. To increase your skill at using the tools, the exercises will let you try your hand at a few more tasks.

Q&A

Q1:How do I draw a path by just clicking and dragging with the mouse?
A1: Use the Vector Path tool (press P to cycle through the path drawing tools). This will create a path in the same way that you would draw with the Brush tool.
Q2:How do I change an object within a group without having to ungroup it?
A2: Use the Subselection tool. Changes applied to the group will affect all elements within a group. With the Subselection tool you can also select individual points along a path.
Q3:I imported a graphic from Illustrator, and now Fireworks is really, really slow. What can I do to speed it up?
A3: Vector path files are generally smaller than bitmap files, but this is not always the case. Use the Render settings to render elements when importing; this creates bitmap objects that won’t require as much processor power to display. Also, saving the file as a PNG will immediately take some stress off the application’s memory allocation.
