Opening and Importing Vector Graphics

When you open or import a vector graphic created in another program, such as Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW, there are a number of options that you can specify to help Fireworks interpret the file the way you want it to. You can choose to import the graphic as a single bitmap or preserve specific elements, such as layers and grouping. Some of the file format features supported in other applications may not be supported in Fireworks, but most of the basic graphic features are.

When you choose a vector file with the Open or Import commands on the File menu, you are presented with a dialog that you may remember from Hour 2, “Image Collection and Management.” The Vector File Options dialog includes a number of features that are useful when importing vector files (see Figure 7.14).
