Roundtrip Editing

Roundtrip editing refers to the ability for a single document to be worked on in two different environments. With Fireworks and Dreamweaver this means that graphics layouts exported from Fireworks can be opened and edited in Dreamweaver. If changes are made to the layout in Fireworks, the exported image slices and HTML files with Fireworks tables can be updated for use in Dreamweaver. If links, hotspots, alternate descriptions, or behaviors are edited in Dreamweaver, the changes will be reflected in the Fireworks source document when launched for editing.

To set up the launch and edit defaults for your Fireworks PNG files in Dreamweaver, choose Preferences from the Dreamweaver Edit menu. Choose File Types/Editors from the list on the left, as shown in Figure 17.1. From the list of extensions that appear on the bottom, choose a Web graphics extension, such as .gif, .png, or .jpg. When you choose a file extension, a list of editors will appear to the right. Click Fireworks and then click the Make Primary button just above. This will make Fireworks MX your primary image editor. Repeat this process for each image extension.
