Hour 4. Working with Bitmap Images > Changing the Canvas

Changing the Canvas

On the Web images are rarely more than a few hundred pixels wide or tall, and by using GIF or JPEG compression, you can keep almost any image under 100 kilobytes without sacrificing too much detail. Using the Property Inspector, it’s easy to quickly resample a bitmap image or change the size of the Canvas to cut a bitmap down to size.

Sometimes you will want to rotate both the image and the dimensions of the Canvas. To do this, choose Rotate 180, Rotate 90 CW, or Rotate 90 CCW from the Canvas commands on the Modify menu. This will rotate the Canvas and all the objects on it. If you would like to make the Canvas smaller to fit just the objects that are visible, use Trim Canvas. If you would like to make the canvas larger to accommodate objects that may otherwise run off it, choose Fit Canvas. You can also access Image Size, Canvas Size, and Canvas Color from the Modify menu.
