Part VI: Speed Up Your Workflow: Automat... > Creating Custom Scripts for the Comm...

Hour 19. Creating Custom Scripts for the Commands Menu

One of the ways you can speed up common tasks and customize Fireworks for your projects is to create custom scripts for the Commands menu through the History panel. To many people the History panel is simply a glorified means of undoing mistakes; however, the reality is that it is much more powerful. The panel records all the recent steps you’ve taken while using the application. Every click, movement, and keystroke is saved to enable you to save, undo, or repeat the steps. You can then save or copy the steps to a .jsf Fireworks JavaScript file for editing or use on the Commands menu.

In this hour you will

  • Undo and repeat steps with the History panel

  • Save steps on the History panel as a script

  • Examine the text of Fireworks scripts

  • Organize scripts on the Commands menu

  • Use batch processing to automate tasks
