Hour 14. Slicing Layouts > Creating Slices on the Web Layer

Creating Slices on the Web Layer

To create a slice on the Web Layer, simply select the Slice tool by pressing K, and click-drag to create a rectangular slice, as in Figure 14.1. Most slices are rectangular since bitmap image files and HTML table cells are also rectangular. A transparent green box with red outlines will appear on the canvas. Lines will also appear, running away from the top and bottom of the sliced image. Because of how tables work, slice guides are created. This ensures that when loading into a browser separately, the slice and the rest of the image come together accurately to form a complete image. You can arrange other slices along these guides or choose not to export areas that aren’t actually part of a slice.

Figure 14.1. The Slice tool can create a slice object on the Web Layer. Each slice object represents an HTML table cell and can contain either an image file or HTML code.
