Exercises

  1. Open a complex FreeHand file into Fireworks and convert it into a Web layout. Spend a little time working out the best way to overcome some of the unsupported features. Draw on the skills you have developed in these 22 hours to redraw or re-create effects that do not transfer.

  2. In Fireworks create a cover page for a book or other document and then take the file into Illustrator. Use the native Illustrator tools to create your complete document. This will introduce you to several publishing techniques, especially for image placement and text flow, that are not normally considered when working only with Fireworks.

  3. Learn a little more about color models and how they are used in different industries. The more you learn, the better your ability to achieve a color match between print and screen. When you develop Exercise 2, create a book or catalog of your skills. When you print this out, see how the print colors compare to the screen colors. Then experiment with color-matching adjustments.
