Hour 2. Image Collection and Management > Creating Backups of Source Images

Creating Backups of Source Images

One of the most important steps in any project after you’ve assembled all your images is to back them up so that you can refer back to them later. The cheapest, fastest, and most reliable way to back up your images is with a CD-R or CD-RW drive. You can buy an external USB CD burner for less than $200. Media can cost less than one dollar for 650 megabytes of storage. If the disks are properly taken care of, the data on them will persist indefinitely; you can come back to perfect copies in 50 or 100 years.

Other backup methods include using other types of removable media, including ZIP and JAZ drives, tape backup drives, and DVD-RAM and DVD-R drives. There are also network backup services where you post files to a network account, where they are then backed up by the service provider.
