Creating Fireworks Native Images (PNG)

Though Fireworks can open and import almost any type of image file, it has its own file format that supports all of Fireworks’ special features. This is the preferred format for creating working copies of all your source images. Fireworks will save an image only in its native format; to create other formats from Fireworks, you will use Export.

It’s always good to make a second copy of your image; the first is your data source, and the second your working image. From your image source, you’ll export the final output. You’ll not want to edit your data source directly; it’s a good idea to leave it completely intact in case you need it later. The working image, in Fireworks’ native PNG format, will be where you do your editing. When you are done working, you will create your final output.
