Workshop

This hour has shown you how Fireworks Commands can be used to develop scripts and has taken that one step further to introduce a Flash interface. This final part of the hour offers some review questions and a quiz to help you review the topics. At the very end are some optional exercises that will take these topics a little further in a practical environment.

Q&A

Q1:I downloaded an extension, but it does not work. What should I check?
A1: The first thing to check is that the file downloaded properly. Then look at the information screen for the extension and check that it is suitable for Fireworks MX. If you are still having problems, read the reviews for the extension and see whether others have had the same problem. Peer-to-peer support is always helpful when troubleshooting.
Q2:I want to make an interface but do not have any Flash skills. Help!
A2: You can download a trial of Flash MX from the Macromedia Web site. The program comes with some great tutorials to get you started. There is nothing in this hour that can’t be learned and re-created easily. Also, check out the support forums on the Macromedia Web site and maybe get a copy of Sams Teach Yourself Macromedia Flash MX in 24 Hours by Phillip Kerman.
Q3:I clicked the Go button in my interface, and nothing happened. Where should I look to fix it?
A3: The reason that you saved the original Flash file was to make changes, if necessary. Go back to the file and check that all code matches and printed exactly. Then check the names of the library items and instances.
