Hour 7. Working with Vector Paths

Fireworks is particularly well suited for working interchangeably with bitmaps and vector paths. Vector paths are derived from calculus, but they are a really useful way to present visual information derived from mathematical functions, or algorithms, instead of using bitmaps or databases for the display. Because of this, vector graphics have many interesting properties. Vector lines and shapes can be resized again and again without a loss of quality.

In this group of hours, you will begin working with the Fireworks Vector tool group on the Tools panel. In Hours 8 and 9, “Creating Text and Typographic Effects” and “Tools and Techniques for Layout and Design,” you’ll learn how to work with text, and you’ll study some advanced techniques for working with vector graphics. The last hour in this part, “Tricks of the Trade,” will go over some great techniques that professional graphic designers use to combine vectors and bitmaps to create great-looking work.
