Getting Started with Fireworks MX

This section will get you started by introducing you to the Fireworks MX interface and showing you how to open an image so you can begin working. The commands shown will work in both the Microsoft Windows XP edition of Fireworks MX and the Macintosh OS X edition, as well previous versions of both operating systems. Keyboard shortcuts are shown for both editions of Fireworks MX.

Opening Fireworks MX for the First Time

To begin using Fireworks, choose Start from the Windows desktop or press the Applications button on your keyboard. Move your mouse pointer over (mouseover) All Programs, then Macromedia, and finally Macromedia Fireworks MX. The first time Fireworks loads, the screen will look something like Figure 1.1.
