Hour 22. Macromedia FreeHand and Adobe Illustrator

Many people use either the FreeHand application or the Illustrator application with Fireworks, but it is not assumed in this hour that you have. Macromedia FreeHand 10 is a vector-based drawing application. It is a common misconception that FreeHand is designed only for the production of printed graphics or illustrations. In reality, while you can use FreeHand to produce documents for a printed environment, you can also turn FreeHand graphics into Flash animations and even preview your FreeHand files in a Flash player. The integrated workspace most closely matches those found in Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash, giving you a working environment that is not too different from what you have in fact already experienced.

There are versions of FreeHand available for both Windows and Macintosh. You can download a free trial of the software from the Macromedia Web site. This will give you 30 days to try the software before deciding whether it’s something you have an ongoing need for.
