Hour 5. Editing Bitmap Graphics > Working with Bitmaps as Objects

Working with Bitmaps as Objects

Working with pixel selections is very useful, but changes to pixels in a bitmap are destructive changes: They destroy the original information in the bitmap. To mitigate this dilemma, you can work with bitmaps as objects, allowing you to manage multiple elements and compose on the Canvas quickly and easily. Only when changes are made to the object’s actual pixels is data destroyed.

To select a bitmap object, use the pointer to click the object on the Canvas or select it from the Layers panel (expand the layer to reveal objects on that layer). To create a new bitmap object from an existing one, choose Duplicate or Clone from the Edit menu. Duplicate puts the new copy below and to the right of the original; Clone creates the new copy in the same location. To create a bitmap object from a marquee selection, choose Copy and Paste from the Edit menu. The contents will appear within a new marquee in the same location as the original pixels.
