Workshop

Now you have a chance to review what you have learned about working with and enhancing text objects in Fireworks. Here are some exercises to help you practice. Although they don’t present step-by-step instructions, these exercises should only require you to apply the techniques covered in this hour.

Q&A

Q1:I’ve pasted a passage of text from another application. Why doesn’t the text have the same font, style, and size settings that it did in the original application?
A1: If the system or application does not support a rich text clipboard, only the characters will be copied. Fireworks will apply default text settings to the pasted text.
Q2:I’ve exported a number of files with text from Fireworks into JPEG format. When I use Find and Replace to search the exported files for a word, why don’t I get any results?
A2: Once text has been flattened, merged, exported, or converted to paths, all character information is gone—it’s been rendered into pixels or vectors. You can search text only within Fireworks PNG source graphics created with the Save command on the File menu.
Q3:I’ve attached text to a path, but I want the path to appear along with the text. What can I do?
A3: Before you attach the text to the path, make sure to create a copy of the path by selecting Clone from the Edit menu. When you attach the text to the cloned path, the original path stroke and fill underneath will appear with the text around it. Shift-click to select the text object and original path, and group them to create a single object.
