Working with Symbols and the Library Panel

Symbols are edited in the Symbol Editor window, which is very similar to the document workspace. Symbols are like documents within the document; each has its own frame, layer, and Canvas setting. Figure 15.12 shows the Symbol Editor for a button. Note the tabs at the top for each button state. To bring up the editor, you can double-click an instance of the symbol you would like to edit, or you can double-click the symbol icon in the left column of the Library panel. To change the symbol’s name or type, double-click the symbol’s current name in the Library panel; otherwise, click to select the symbol and select Properties from the Library panel Options menu.

Figure 15.12. Button symbols have only four frames—one for each button state—accessible from tabs at the top of the Symbol Editor.
