Acknowledgments

I’d like to take this time to acknowledge the rest of my family and friends, without whom none of this would happen. First, my mother and father, who spent their 1983 tax return on our family’s first computer, an 8mhz Sanyo with 256kb of Ram and a monochrome monitor. They also showed me that it was possible to make a good living being a geek. I can’t forget my brother Christopher, a talented writer and bon vivant who shared my love for good food and loud music. I will always miss him.

Robby Fahey, my live-in muse, keeps me from playing video games all day, so that I can pay my bills and continue to afford vinyl LPs. Without her and our lovely cat, Ally, the home office would be a lonely place indeed.

Garfield High School was where I got my first taste of publishing as the production coordinator for The Messenger. Seth Kolloen, Malia McCarthy, and Ethan Fineout endured a lot with me as the production staff, and I’m lucky to still count them as good friends (no thanks to the antiquated offset presses). Tomas Clarke, who let me in on the creative possibilities of computers, was our editor-in-chief. Pauls Toutonghi and Thor Jensen helped convince me that an artistic vocation was a realistic dream as a writer and a visual artist, respectively.

Further, I would like to acknowledge Jennifer Coleman, Timothy Jurgensen, Melissa Mecca, Raiko Alexiev, Hank Thomas, Bayete Ross-Smith, and Marcelo Perez for helping me feel at home in the Bay Area. Fellow digerati, they’re a constant source of information and inspiration. Nothing makes me happier than cooking for my friends and sharing a few beers on a warm California day.

Finally, I would like to thank Macromedia for writing great software that lets me sit at home in my bathrobe and create beautiful illustrations, animations, graphics, and layouts like a real professional.
