Summary

Photoshop can work with many different kinds of graphics files from many sources. Those that it doesn't open directly, either by double-clicking or by using the File, Open dialog box, can be imported through plug-in filters. If you have a digital camera or scanner, it may have a Photoshop plug-in that enables you to open the image from within Photoshop. Check your owner's manual.

Logically enough, Photoshop can also save documents in all the formats it can open. Different formats have different purposes and different file sizes. Some are specifically intended for Web use; others for printing. Choose a format based on the intended use of the image.
