The Type Tool

In Photoshop 5.5, you have a choice of setting type horizontally or vertically. The Type tool's popout menu, shown in Figure 17.1, offers four choices. The arrows indicate vertical type, and the dotted lines indicate that type set with that tool will be created as paths rather than as actual letters. The ability to set paths enables you to do one of Photoshop's neatest tricks—cut type out of pictures.
