Hour 17. Adding Type to Pictures

If a picture's worth a thousand words, how many more is it worth if we add words to the picture? Well, never mind…. The fact is, though, that sometimes you have to add type to a picture for one reason or another. Photoshop's Type tool gets better with each revision. In Photoshop 5.5, you can select an antialiasing option for type, apply simulated styles to type, and turn off fractional character widths to improve the appearance of small type displayed at low resolution. Once you enter your text, you can convert it to paths and fill it with images, apply filters, or use any of a variety of other tricks. We will start with the basics.
