Defringe

Q1:What is Defringe?
A1: Defringe (under Layer>Matting) is a command used to remove a small “fringe” of pixels around a layer. The fringe often appears when an area is copied from a Background and a small amount of the Background color comes with the copy. Defringe can help remove that color fringe.
Q2:How do I get rid of fringe pixels (halo around the edges)? Sometimes there are some white pixels around the edge of a layer that I've copied. How can I get rid of these pixels?

A2: From the Layer menu, choose Matting> Defringe. Enter an amount such as 1 or 2 pixels.
Q3:How can I remove fringe pixels if Defringe doesn't work? I've tried using the command Layer>Matting>Defringe, but I don't really like the results. Any other possibilities?
A3: Try this method: Command-click (PC: Control-click) on the layer thumbnail to select the contents of the layer. From the Select menu, choose Modify>Contract and enter a value of 1 or 2 pixels. Then, return to the Select menu and choose Inverse. Press Delete (PC: Backspace), or if that's too obvious, choose Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur to apply a slight blur with your inversed selection in place.
