Step 3—Spotting

At his point, I take a quick tour of my image and remove tiny scratches, specks, dust or other small defects that might cause problems down the road (this is commonly known as spotting) (Figure 17.14). This step does not have to be performed at this stage, but it should be complete before localized adjustments are made for the same reason that you should remove noise before that stage, which I'll talk about a little later in this chapter.
