Chapter 17. Workflow > Step 1—Image Capture

Step 1—Image Capture

We'll start at the beginning by looking at how you get an image into your computer. The better condition the image is when it first arrives, the less difficult it will be to get a good result at the end of the workflow. Most images are digitized using either a scanner or digital camera. Let's look at how the digitizing can affect your Photoshop workflow. If you don't shoot your own photos, you can skip the Digital Cameras section and go right on to the section on Scanners.

A Megapixel is simply one million pixels. That means that a 6.3 Megapixel digital camera will deliver approximately 6.3 million pixels total or a 3072 x 2048 image (3072 x 2048=6,291,456 pixels).
