Chapter 15. Collage > Nested Smart Objects

Nested Smart Objects

You can nest one Smart Object within another by choosing Layer > Smart Objects > Group Into New Smart Object (when at least one Smart Object is selected). Nested Smart Objects are useful when you want simplify the Layers palette view of your image (Figure 15.125), or cause Layer Styles to think of multiple layers as a single object instead of applying to each individual element that makes up the image (Figure 15.126 and 15.127). This will also allow you to apply warping to all the layers at once (we'll talk about warping later in this chapter).

Figure 15.125. Left: Ten Smart Objects are used to create a complex document, Right: The same document viewed after nesting the ten Smart Object layers into a single Smart Object.
