Where's the New Stuff?

If you've owned a previous edition of this book or just want to jump right into the new features of Photoshop CS2, this is the place to start. Here's a snapshot of the new features covered in this book.

Chapter 1 Tool and Palette Primer

Check out the awesome new Bridge application that replaced CS's File Browser (page 49) and the new menu editing feature (page 55).

Chapter 3 Layers Primer

Adobe made considerable changes to the Layers palette in CS2. You'll need to read the entire chapter (starts on page 94) to get all the revisions. One of the most significant enhancements is the new multi-layer select feature (page 102) and the new Smart Objects layers (however, Smart Objects is covered in the Chapter 15, page 463). Also read about the new Smart Guides in this chapter (page 118).

Chapter 7 Color Management

Adobe made changes to the Print with Preview dialog box (page 232), and moved some of the color management features in CS2, which you will find throughout the chapter.

Chapter 9 Using Camera Raw

Camera Raw (page 256) got a major makeover loaded with tons of improvements including: automatic tonal adjustments, shadow & highlight clipping warnings, image rotation and straightening, non-destructive cropping, Curve tab, multi-image support, improved integration with Bridge.

Chapter 10 Color Manipulation

The new Red Eye tool makes removing red eye a snap (page 301).

Chapter 11 Adjustment Layers

This brand new chapter (page 310) show you how to get the most out of Photoshop's powerful Adjustment Layers so that you can isolate and adjust areas while avoiding common problems.

Chapter 12 Sharpening

Learn about the new Reduce Noise (page 339) and Smart Sharpen filters (page 348).

Chapter 15 Collage

Major update of this chapter includes coverage of the new Smart Objects (page 463), Warping feature (page 469), as well as an in-depth, step-by-step collage project that shows you how to create the cover of this book, complete with the layered Photoshop file and practice images on the CD (page 471).

Chapter 16 Retouching
