Chapter 15. Collage > Final Tweaks

Final Tweaks

Finally, the cover contained all of the major pieces found in the original version given to me by Regina, and now it just needed a few tweaks to refine the results. For thebackground pattern, I duplicated the fan of leaves Smart Object, set its blending mode to Screen, lowered the opacity and scaled it up to lighten the background, using the same shape as the leaves. To make the fan of leaves partially transparent, I added a Layer Mask and painted with a soft-edged brush at a low opacity, which let the shape of the head show through. For the lens reflection effect, I added a photo above the lens (yes, that would be yours truly) and used the Overlay blending mode. And last, to make it look like a beam of light was emanating from the lens, I created a new layer, made a triangular selection, filled it with white and lowered its Opacity to connect the lens to the eye (Figure 15.172). With a big “Whew!” I considered myself done with the collage, and now only needed to put it into a 3-D mock-up of the book's cover.
